Prairie Technologies and ERSystems win NRCA’s 2005 Excellence in Design Award (2-24-05)

Rockford, MN - Prairie Technologies and ERSystems both of Rockford, MN recently won the NRCA’s 2005 Excellence in Design Award. The award was presented during the 118th Annual International Roofing Exposition in Orlando on February 16th.

The ERSystems and Prairie Technologies 50,000 ft2 corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Program (LEED). The roof system was designed as an integrated building asset and features the following roof system technologies:

1. 25% of the rainwater from the roof is captured and reused for landscape irrigation.
2. A 5,000 ft2 Prairie Garden Roof sits in the center of 25,000 ft2 of Energy Star certified white CPA roofing membrane.
3. The remainder of the roof is EPDM membrane coated with ERSystems Energy Star certified highly reflective Eraguard 1000 acrylic coating.
4. A 5kW solar array is positioned at the center of the building.
5. A mini wind farm consisting of 5 rooftop wind turbines generates 2kW.
6. Both the solar and wind systems are tied to the electrical grid and are net metered.
7. A weather station with live web cam is at the south end of the building (ersystems.com or prairie-tech.com).

The award honors energy efficient and environmentally friendly roof systems designed according to accepted industry practices and expected to have very long service lives. A panel of roofing industry experts chose the winner from over 50 entries.
